Black Cohosh

Black Cohosh: Latin name is Cimicifuga racemosa. Black Cohosh is a member of the buttercup family and is also known as Black Cohosh, Black bugbane or Black snakeroot or Fairy candle! Insects avoid it, which accounts for some of these common names. Black Cohosh is not related but has similar medinal properties as the Blue Cohosh plant.

Black Cohosh is grows in eastern North America from the extreme south of Ontario south to central Georgia, and west to Missouri and Arkansas. It grows in a variety of woodland situations, and is often found in small woodland openings.
Black cohosh has been included in herbal compounds or dietary supplements marketed to women as remedies for the symptoms of premenstrual tension, menopause and other gynecological problems.
Black cohosh can cause stomach discomfort and headaches and do not take for a period greater than 6 months!
